Denise Zygadlo

Using fragmented photocopied imagery of classical and neo-classical marble sculpture intercut with her own body, Zygadlo toys with our cultural icons; perhaps referring to archetypal elements in the mundane, perhaps stretching our understanding to encompass the ambiguities of the present, but certainly drawing us into a strangely intimate tension between the intensely personal and the universally accessible. The delicacy of the works themselves, somehow at odds with the solidity of the subject matter, reinforces the questions she is asking about the representation of ‘the body’ and our sense of self.
