I’m in Nottingham with my parents in the house I grew up in.
I keep coming back to this question because I can’t quite put it into words. What I’m thinking about, what’s important, what’s necessary, is constantly shifting and evolving, and therefore the work is different because life is different. I’m thinking small and making smaller, as my world has shrunk and my energy is focused more on the local community. The actual making process, however, is unchanged out of choice. I’m finding comfort in familiar ways of working, the kind of way I work when I’m tired or my heart’s not really in it, such as drawing, making small paintings and monoprinting. I don’t feel like I’ve got the mental capacity to experiment and face even more uncertainty.
