Exercise One

Practice - What is giving your life meaning this week?
Working on my new book; seeing my seedlings grow; the sunshine!

 

What do you see as the most important and the most overlooked aspect of your work?

The rawness of it.

 

Do you think your work would be different if you knew no one was ever going to see it except you?

No.

 

Describe your dream studio situation and what is the biggest thing you think you took for granted about working in your studio ?

I’m able to use my studio, fortunately. In my dream scenario it would be 4 times larger…

 

What is your best time of the day or night to work and why? 

I’m good first thing in the morning and then late afternoon. Yes, I work at these times.

 

What is your studio staple snack?

Chocolate Biscuits.

 

Tell us about something you saw on your one walk of the day

I’m always lucky to pass by the sea. I sometimes see a seal in Newlyn harbor, which always feels lovely.

 

 If you had to live with one vice for the rest of your life what would it be?

I honestly don't know....

 

 Exercise Two

What is your favourite podcast?

I don’t listen to any. I sometimes listen to the daily briefing on iplayer but it makes me shout at my phone…

 

What is the best gift you've ever given or been given, vs the worst?

Best: when I gave birth to my son, or the day my horse arrived.(both gifts to myself I guess).

Worst: a pair of cheap uncool jodhpurs when I was about 9, from my Mum.

 

What is the best film you've ever seen vs the worst?

The best: Tree of wooden clogs (L’albero degli zoccholi, by Olmi).

The Worst: Wolf Creek. 

 

What's the most inspirational place you've been?

Anywhere/everywhere in Italy. Top of the list probably St Francis Basilica in Assisi,or the Dolomiti mountains.

 

Which era would you like to have experienced /experience again?

My youth with what I know now.

 

What are three trivial things you are missing since lockdown and three things you are enjoying?

I don’t miss anything. I’m enjoying being in my studio every day, and seeing my son a lot more.

 

What is your favourite hour of the day now? Are you aware of each hour/time more or less now?

Favourite hours are first thing in the morning when I sit in bed and write.

 

What have you learnt, what are you consuming, what are you now expert in - since lockdown?

I’m consuming my old notebooks, to put them in my new book. I’m learning that I’m changing.
