david hollington

A graduate of Central Saint Martins, and Harrow School of Art, Hollington creates narrative paintings where animals play lead roles.

David Hollington's paintings are narrative stories in which animals play the lead role. He employs a trinity of native British animals; the fox, the hare and the barn owl. They are the perfect vehicle for expressing emotions too complex or weighty to be borne by simply a human figure, instead he uses these animals in tandem with a series of figures from Hindu, Celtic and Catholic faiths to create meditations about the pain, misery and joy of existence.

'Being Scottish of origin there is always something that draws me back to the need to place this cast of characters in dream spaces that feel like true emotional encounters with the landscapes in the Highlands and Islands. No matter how abstracted the terrain that encases my avatars is, there is always a recall system in my mind that locates an elemental epiphany with a place and returns to it continually.'

'My work is an attempt to heal, comfort and make sense of humanities destructive tendancies  both to one another as well as to the delicate balance of the natural world.'

David has work in numerous private collections around the UK
